How to Wear A Monochomatic Look
So you may have been hearing about monochromatic looks recently and may be a little confused about what it is or how to pull an outfit together, but don't worry! I'm about to break it all down for you!
In getting all like the dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding; "In Greek, mono means singular and chromatic means colors, so it means one color. There you go!" Now grab the Windex! But seriously, Monochromatic looks aren't only an easy thing to put together and pull off but it just looks so dang chic!
So how do you put together a monochromatic look?
Start by picking out a color. Remember, you're going to be wearing this look from head to toe, so make sure the color compliments your hair and skin tone. If you're not sure what colors exactly will work for you or this is your first time trying the look, play it safe and start with dark neutrals, like black, navy, gray, and brown. As you get comfortable with this look you can play with fun colors and be a little more adventurous with your color palette.
When choosing your color also keep in mind that colors will accentuate parts of your body so if you're self conscious; for example, if you feel like you have large thighs and don't want to draw attention to them, then I wouldn't wear a bright color when achieving this look. It may look good on some, but if you're not feeling good in it, you're not going to be comfortable in it.
What I love about a monochromatic look is that it can make you look taller and leaner, especially if you're a petite woman, but just like in creating any other outfit, make sure your clothing is creating and achieving balance. So if you're wearing a flowy top, make sure you wear fitted pants or a fitted skirt and if you're wearing a fuller skirt or wide leg pants, wear them with a fitted top. You can also create proportion with a belt if you're wearing a dress or a bulkier sweater.
If you want to add a little interest to your outfit, add a little pattern, texture, or shimmer, just make sure the same color carries through. Don't be afraid to add some stripes, polka dots or metallics and have a little fun with your look. Style shouldn't be all serious! Oh and the most important thing about rocking this look? Make sure it represents your own personal style! Then you'll be sure to feel pulled together, beautiful and confident!
